Secret email about the Post Office Scandal. Shh!

The Pete Murray trilogy: pt 3

Morning secret emailers

I hope you are well and looking forward to a fine, if slightly chilly Bank Holiday.

This weekend I have posted up part 3 of the Pete Murray trilogy. Pete is a Subpostmaster who was suspended in November last year after mysterious discrepancies appeared at his Hope Farm Road branch.

I have a particular interest in Pete’s plight as:

a) Hope Farm Road is the branch whose previous incumbent took his own life after the Post Office took tens of thousands of pounds off him

b) it proves mysterious Horizon discrepancies is not just a historical phenomenon. It is happening now.

Part 3 of Pete’s story takes the form of a heartfelt letter to the office of the Post Office Chief Executive Paula Vennells (as then was).

It contains so many quotable lines I don’t want to pick one out, but anyone who has had any frustration when dealing with the Post Office will find his pleas familiar.

I’ve got to know Pete quite well (via email and phone) over the last six months and I like him a lot. How he has retained his sense of humour over what has happened to him I will never know, but I take my hat off to him.

Part 4 of Pete’s trilogy, bringing us up to date with his story, will be published over the next seven days.

Please do have a read. And please send Pete some love and sympathy. He’s fighting to keep his head above water, and I hope for the sake of his family and children he manages to do so.

Best regards

Nick
