Hi all
Hope you are well. I’ve been keeping busy over the past few days, marshalling a few files and preparing another Post Office v Mental Health story. This one is about a mediation scheme applicant and claimant in the ongoing litigation. She wasn’t prosecuted, but she easily might have been. Also I’m hoping a secret emailer will be submitting a guest post about the strange relationship between the Post Office and BEIS. But first…
Judgment No 1
Prompted by a twitter contact (hello Matthew Smeeth) I have located, read and fisked the very first judgment in the Bates and others v Post Office litigation.
It’s only 21 paragraphs long and involves the judge making plain he is very unhappy about the way the litigation is proceeding. This was on 10 Nov 2017. Imagine how he felt nearly two years later when the Post Office tried to get him sacked.
Judgment No 1 prompted me to add yet another page to the menu at the top of the www.postofficetrial.com blog. It is called “Judgments“. This joins the recently added “Start here” page and the “Court of Appeal menu“.
The Judgments menu now contains links to all five judgments made in this litigation so far and my far shorter write-ups thereof. Please do have a look if you have a moment.
I’ll be in touch again shortly when the next piece of Victim Testimony has been published. I post these up because amidst the drama of the court case and the complexity of the story, I think it’s essential to continue to highlight the human beings who are at the heart of this. They still have nothing to show for years of campaigning and suffering. If you haven’t yet read any of the testimony in the that section of the blog, I urge you to do so. I’ll try to add more as the year progresses.
Yours
Nick
