Secret email about the Post Office Scandal. Shh!

How not to obtain a court document

Process, process, process

I genuinely, honestly thought I had a shout.

Someone I know with access to media lawyers told me their legal fold said I had no chance. They were right.

I know open justice as a legal term doesn’t mean what most of us would understand as open justice, and I know that justice as exercised by the courts doesn’t equate to what most people would call natural justice, but still…

To add insult to injury, as soon as my application had been batted aside by their Lady and Lord Justices, I was kicked out of court (for social distancing reasons) and put in a court where I couldn’t see what was going on, eventually couldn’t hear what was going on and soon after that, lost the will to be a journalist.

Flora and Paul

As a result of being put in a room where I couldn’t see or hear what was going on, I found it quite difficult to report on what was going on. I know! Nonetheless we do now know what’s going to happen to the two barristers who may or may not be charged with contempt: nothing, for now.

Read all about it here.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to tweet, email or donate with words of encouragement and support. Pathetic though it may be, it does help when you are sitting in leaky Victorian acoustic vacuum dreaming about the days you used to go to film premieres for a living.

On the subject of cashflow management, I’m trying to work with the parties to get cheaper, or even free transcripts of proceedings sent to me, a la Bates v Post Office and Depp v NGN. That, at least, would stop the drain on the crowdfunding pot.

I still think it’s important to get the transcripts, though, no matter how much they cost. This is history. For whatever that’s worth.

Have a lovely weekend.

Nick
