Secret email about the Post Office Scandal. Shh!

Did government officials collude in trying to remove a judge?

Like peeling an onion

Hello secret emailers

I hope you are keeping well. I had a podcast fall through today so I’ve done some Post Office work and I might get a chance to do some Johnny Depp stuff later.

First things first – I have written up the answer to a parliamentary question given by Lord Callanan to Lord Arbuthnot before the recess. I know that doesn’t sound too thrilling, but it really was an important revelation.

Every question by every parliamentarian in either house yields another tiny fraction of useful information about the relationship between the government and the Post Office over their treatment of Subpostmasters and this was no exception. Read the piece here.

Last year I felt confident enough to call out the government’s collusion with the Post Office. This year, that collusion is slowly being unpicked. An anonymous whistleblower confirmed it, Paula Vennells admitted it, and through parliamentary questions, the government is slowly and reluctantly coming to the table. My latest article reflects that, but I must offer thanks to the journalist Tony Collins who spotted Lord Arbuthnot’s question when it was answered over a month ago, and wrote a superb post incorporating it.

Weather warning

Yesterday I was out on the English Channel in a tiny fishing boat looking for migrants, the RAF Atlas which was supporting Border Force patrols and Priti Patel, who turned up for an unannounced guided tour of Dover Port in a police launch.

My cameraman managed to get seasick, heatstroke and food poisoning and ended up in hospital, so it was quite an eventful 17 hour day.

He’s alright now.

Look after yourselves in this heat, my friends – oh and once more apologies to any Johnny Depp v NGN followers who’ve wandered into this mailing list by mistake. If it’s not for you, please hit unsubscribe or reply to this email with the word “unsubscribe” in the title and I’ll remove you. I am going to work on separating out my crowdfunding pots asap!

Best

Nick
