Good evening secret emailers.
This is Deirdre’s story. Deirdre was the last applicant to make it on to the mediation scheme and is a claimant in the ongoing Bates and others v Post Office group litigation.
In many ways the misery visited on Deirdre isn’t the same as those who were dragged through the criminal justice process and sent to prison. Having said that she lost her job, her livelihood, her mental health, was made bankrupt and also lost the most financially productive nine years of her life.
You’re the only one
Deirdre’s story reminded me of something which I fully expected to come up in court over the course of the last two trials, but for some reason hasn’t.
There appears to be a large number of Subpostmasters who were told by Post Office investigators that they were they only ones having problems with Horizon. Deirdre was told this in 2010. She wasn’t.
I’ve decided I’m going to build up a proper picture of which Subpostmasters were told they were the only ones who were having problems with Horizon, in what context, and who by. I know of at least one named individual working for the Post Office who is alleged to have said this to a Subpostmaster and then several weeks later, said the same thing to another Subpostmaster.
If there is enough compelling evidence of Post Office staff perverting the course of their own investigations, then I think there is compelling evidence of fraud. Names and pack drill, please – just hit reply to this email and what you have to say will be treated in the strictest confidence.
To be absolutely clear, I want to be able to name Post Office investigators who have told Subpostmasters they are/were the only people having problems with Horizon. Doing this properly requires dates times and locations. I’ve heard it said often enough, now I want to nail it down.
Judgments, judgments everywhere
Yesterday I thought it might be useful to start putting together a list of the only things that really matter in this litigation – the judgments. So I did – here they all are, on a page called “Judgments” (genius). Judgment number one has been found, read and filleted for your reading pleasure. judgment number three is still the best. That’s there, too.
Right – Mrs Wallis is calling me into the front room to watch the highlights of England’s unexpected heroics on the third day of the third test at Headingly. I can’t help but think it will all go pear-shaped tomorrow.
Still, if it doesn’t, it’ll be one for the annals, eh?
Yours
Nick
