Post Office explains everything
It’s late so I’ll be super quick.
I’ve published my court report from today here. Do please have a read.
Most of today was spent listening to Brian Altman QC explaining the Post Office’s perspective on everything, but right at the very end, there was quite a moment in court as Ben Gordon QC told the court how he had never had the chance to meet his client, Dawn O’Connell. It was because she passed away last September, a few months after being referred to the Court of Appeal by the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
I was privileged to meet two members of her family outside court Mark and Matt, who explained just some of the horrors Dawn and they had been through.
I don’t think any of us were prepared for what Mr Gordon had to say – and coming at the end of some rather dry legal argument, it certainly brought me up short.
I have reproduced everything he said in the transcript at the end of my court report. It’s worth a read.
If you want to you can catch up on all the live tweets from both days in court on three beautifully curated web pages (one of my threads got broken). Day 1 part 1 is here, Day 1 part 2 is here and Day 2 (today) is here.
Thanks to everyone who has joined the secret emailer today. I promise I’ll get my court report in earlier in future.
Live tweets start here at 10.30am tomorrow.
Right. Bed. Goodnight!
